Jamie Carragher humorously remarks “I guess that’s why I’m behind the microphone” after making an incorrect Chelsea selection prediction

I think the moment when Jamie Carragher had to take back his comment about Nicolas Jackson during the Chelsea vs. Man City match was a classic case of the commentator’s curse. It’s always entertaining to see these moments play out in real time and it showed how quickly things can change in football.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was compelled to retract a statement he made about Nicolas Jackson during the Premier League showdown between Chelsea and Manchester City. The Blues managed to hold Pep Guardiola’s team to a 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Just before Jackson scored a crucial goal in the 67th minute to equalize the score for the third time, Carragher remarked that he “hadn’t seen much” from the striker. Following this, Carragher was obliged to rescind his initial comment. During the match commentary, he humorously stated, “And that’s why I am not a coach!”

Fans took to social media to express their reactions, with one person noting that Jackson scored soon after Carragher’s comment, labeling it a “commentator’s curse.” Another individual remarked that Carragher’s comment gave Jackson the incentive to score, while a third joked that Carragher had set Jackson up. The match ended with both teams sharing the points after a thrilling game.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 25th minute, followed by Thiago Silva leveling the score. Raheem Sterling then put Chelsea in the lead before Manuel Akanji equalized just before half time. Haaland then scored again to give City the advantage, only for Jackson to draw Chelsea level at 3-3. City took the lead once more in the 86th minute through Rodri, but former City star Cole Palmer converted a penalty in added time to secure a dramatic point for Chelsea.
