Diego Simeone seeks holding midfielder as Atletico Madrid face potential Caglar Soyuncu exit
Atletico Madrid facing potential Caglar Soyuncu exit
Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is keen to strengthen his squad in the winter transfer window with a holding midfielder. However, it seems that his squad may be weakened before that happens. Central defender Caglar Soyuncu is the closest to leaving the club in search of more minutes.
Soyuncu’s desire to leave Atletico
Soyuncu has been linked with an exit for the past two months and has only seen 212 minutes of playing time. With the Euros approaching, the Turkish defender is reportedly keen to arrive in top shape for the competition, something he will not achieve at Atletico as things stand.
Interest from various clubs
La Liga insider Matteo Moretto has reported that Soyuncu is eager to return to the Premier League but currently has interest from Borussia Dortmund, Roma, Besiktas, and Fenerbahce, in addition to Porto. Porto, however, seem to be ahead in negotiations with an agreement in place with Atletico Madrid, although the terms of the deal are not yet clear.
Potential benefits for Atletico
Whether it’s a sale or a loan, Atletico Madrid stands to benefit from a deal involving Soyuncu. As he arrived at the club on a free transfer, any sale would result in pure profit. A loan, on the other hand, could see Soyuncu gain the playing time he currently lacks, setting him up for a possible sale in the summer or giving him more confidence to compete for his spot.
