AIFF Fires Secretary General Shaji Prabhakaran Over Lack of Trust

The sacking of AIFF secretary general Shaji Prabhakaran due to a “trust deficit” reflects internal turmoil within the organization. The lack of confidence from the president and executive committee members indicates a larger issue. This move may have implications for the future of Indian football administration and governance.
Shaji Prabhakaran, who previously held the position of Football Delhi president, has been dismissed from his role as secretary general of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) due to a “trust deficit”, as confirmed by a prominent official on Wednesday. AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey issued the termination letter on Tuesday to Prabhakaran, who had been appointed to the position on September 3, 2022.
In light of this development, deputy secretary general Satyanarayan M will assume the responsibilities of acting secretary general. The decision to remove Prabhakaran stems from a perceived lack of trust between Chaubey and Prabhakaran, as well as dissatisfaction among AIFF executive committee members regarding Prabhakaran’s performance in his role.

Prabhakaran’s appointment took place during the first executive committee meeting of the new administration following the elections on September 2. Before assuming the position of AIFF secretary general, he held the role of Football Delhi president and subsequently resigned to take up the new position on September 6, 2022.
An executive committee meeting has been scheduled for Thursday to formally inform members of the development and address other pertinent issues. According to AIFF vice-president NA Haris, there is no requirement for the executive committee to ratify the president’s decision to terminate Prabhakaran, as the president holds the authority to appoint and remove the secretary general.
