Aston Villa Football Club, commonly referred to as Villa, is a professional football club based in Aston, Birmingham, England. The club was founded in 1874 and competes in the Premier League, the top tier of the English football league system. The team has played at their home ground, Villa Park, since 1897. Aston Villa is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in England, having won the Football League First Division seven times, the FA Cup seven times, the League Cup five times, and the European Cup and European Super Cup once.

Aston Villa History
Aston Villa FC was formed in March 1874 by members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel in Aston, Birmingham. The four founders were Jack Hughes, Frederick Matthews, Walter Price, and William McGregor. McGregor is credited as being the founder of the Football League, as he was one of the club’s directors at the time of its inception.
Aston Villa has been a leading English club since the 1880s, when its team was renowned for short, quick combination passing under Scotsman George Ramsay, who was appointed as the world’s first professional football manager in 1886. The club was influential in the sport’s move to professionalism in 1885, and it was a Villa director, William McGregor, who founded the world’s first Football League in 1888.
Villa were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992, one of just three clubs to have been founding members of both the Football League and the Premier League. In their first Premier League season, Aston Villa finished as runners-up, behind winners Manchester United.
Achievements
Aston Villa’s first-ever honor came in 1880 when they won the Senior Cup under the captaincy of Scotsman George Ramsay. Seven years later, the club won its first-ever FA Cup, this time under the captaincy of Archie Hunter, one of the game’s first real household names. Villa was one of the 12 clubs that founded the inaugural Football League back in 1888.
In 1897, Villa won their first Football League trophy, as well as a second FA Cup. In this same successful year for the Birmingham club, they also moved to the ground where they currently are, at Villa Park, which when it was first built was known as Ashton Lower Grounds.
In 1992, Aston Villa became one of the founding members of the English Premier League. In their first EPL season, Aston Villa finished as runners-up, behind winners Manchester United.

As of the 2022-23 season, Aston Villa is competing in the Premier League, the top tier of the English football league system. The team is currently managed by Unai Emery, and the chairman is Nassef Sawiris. In the 2022-23 season, Aston Villa finished 7th out of 20 teams in the Premier League.
