Sources: Inter Miami and Luis Suárez of Grêmio reach agreement
Inter Miami CF has reached an agreement with Luis Suárez of Grêmio, according to sources. It was confirmed by Renato Gaúcho, Suárez’s current coach at Grêmio, that the 36-year-old will leave the club at the end of the Brazilian Serie A season in December, despite still having another year remaining on his two-year contract signed in December 2022.
The deal, which includes an option to renew for a second year, has been agreed upon with Miami, and all that remains is for the contract to be signed. Suárez, Uruguay’s all-time top scorer with 68 goals in 137 appearances for the national team, has been the leading scorer for Grêmio this season, with 10 goals and 10 assists in 31 league games.
Grêmio, a two-time Serie A champion, currently sits third in the table, three points behind leaders Palmeiras with seven games left in the season. Speculation about Suárez moving to South Florida began during the summer when he expressed the physical toll the demanding Brazilian league was taking on his body, particularly his knees. He has previously undergone meniscus surgeries on both knees.

In addition to Suárez, Inter Miami has also signed former Barcelona players Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba in the middle of their season. Suárez played alongside this trio at Barcelona from 2014 to 2020, winning numerous titles including four Spanish La Liga titles and the 2015 UEFA Champions League.
Inter Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino confirmed last month that the club maintains its interest in signing Suárez, stating that they will be prepared to move forward officially once the necessary arrangements have been made.
Inter Miami CF’s acquisition of Grêmio’s Luis Suárez seems to be on the horizon. The 36-year-old striker, reportedly departing from his current club in December, is said to have a one-year deal with a possible extension. Suárez’s previous connectivity with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba adds further intrigue to this move.
